Program overview
The Phlebotomy Technician program prepares students to perform the duties of a phlebotomy technician, including blood collection, venipuncture, and the storage and basic processing of blood and blood components. Students study the circulatory system and related pathology; the laws and ethics of phlebotomy practice; and critical policies including universal precautions, infection control, and OSHA and CLIA guidelines.
The program totals 165 clock hours (127 theory and 38 lab) and is offered in Hybrid and Traditional formats. Graduates are prepared for entry-level employment and are eligible to pursue national certification, such as the NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT).
What you'll be able to do
Describe the structure, function, and common pathologies of the circulatory system. Apply the laws, ethics, and scope of practice that govern the phlebotomy technician. Perform blood-collection procedures, including venipuncture and capillary draws, with proper technique. Apply universal precautions and OSHA and CLIA guidelines in specimen collection and handling. Transfer, accession, and process specimens accurately, applying quality-assurance and safety procedures.

Hours below reflect the Traditional (on-campus) track. In the Hybrid track, theory is delivered online (122 hrs) except a 5-hour on-campus Health Science Core final; all 38 lab hours are completed on campus (43 hrs on campus total).

Career outlook
Graduates are prepared for entry-level employment as a Phlebotomy Technician in hospitals, outpatient centers, clinics, diagnostic laboratories, and other healthcare facilities.
Certification
The program prepares graduates for the optional NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) national certification. The school does not require an exit exam to graduate.
