Program overview
The Electrocardiograph Technician program prepares students to perform the duties of an EKG Technician. Students study the cardiovascular system and the pathology of related diseases; the laws and ethics relevant to the technician's role in the medical chain of command; and the knowledge and skills needed to operate medical instrumentation and perform the modalities used in electrocardiography.
The program totals 165 clock hours (128 theory and 37 lab) and is offered in Hybrid and Traditional formats. Graduates are prepared for entry-level employment and are eligible to pursue national certification, such as the NHA Certified EKG Technician (CET).
What you'll be able to do
Describe the structure, function, and common pathologies of the cardiovascular system using medical terminology. Apply the laws, ethical standards, and scope of practice governing the EKG technician. Operate and maintain electrocardiograph instruments and perform EKG testing modalities. Prepare patients for electrocardiography — communication, positioning, and lead placement. Perform CPR and apply infection-control and safety practices in the clinical setting.
